The Wrestler: “bigger than life”

Negli scorsi giorni è uscito al cinema il film “The Wrestler”, il cui protagonista è il wrestler professionista Randy “The Ram” Robinson (Mickey Rourke), alla fine degli anni ‘80 al culmine della sua carriera, ma oggi alle prese con un rapporto difficile con la figlia, interpretata da Evan Rachel Wood, e con la scelta causata da un infarto durante un match: vivere e rinunciare ad esibirsi o rischiare la vita per vivere ancora l’adrenalina dell’esibizione.
Occorre sottolineare in particolare che la colonna sonora del film è composta da nomi dell’hair metal conosciuti e nei ricordi solo dei veri fan del genere: Ratt, Slaughter, Quiet Riot e Cinderella, la cui musica era la più adatta allo stile del Wrestler, un rock pesante con chitarre fumanti e salti acrobatici sul palco, rendendo le entrate dei wrestler sul ring in perfetta sintonia con le rockstar Anni Ottanta, così wrestler e rockstar sono “bigger than life“, non si accontentano di una vita banale e non si arrendono all’età che corre.
In particolare l’ultimo incontro del film ha un’intro d’eccezione, “Sweet Child O’ Mine” dei Guns N’ Roses, il cui frontman Axl Rose è stato anche ringraziato nei titoli di coda.
Questa è la soundtrack del film, a cui occorre aggiungere il brano composto in occasione del film da Bruce Springsteen, “The Wrestler“, e incluso nell’album “Working On a Dream“.

mar 12, 2009, 13:55Il cinema americano è da sempre una fabbrica di eroi, perché una società basata sulla competizione e sul merito ha un bisogno famelico di modelli positivi ed in questa ottica si colloca degnamente The Wrestler, lo struggente racconto di Randy, superbamente interpretato da Mickey Rourke, un lottatore imbolsito costretto per sbarcare il lunario a continuare a combattere oltre i limiti del tempo, operato di by pass, rischiando la vita.
Quanto più l’eroe è bastonato, umiliato, abbandonato da tutti tanto più rifulge nell’immaginario del pubblico e Randy rappresenta il prototipo caro al sogno americano di chi ama la lotta e non vuole darsi mai per vinto. Ad ogni fotogramma si manifesta la denuncia dello spietato sfruttamento dei corpi a fini spettacolari, una caratteristica tipica delle civiltà decadenti e Roma con le sue truculente lotte tra gladiatori rappresenta un esempio lampante.
Un destino incrociato a quello di Randy è quello di Marisa, la spogliarellista prostituta della quale si innamora ricambiato; anche lei per sopravvivere è costretta ad esibire il suo corpo disfatto, sul quale ha infierito crudele il tempo, ad un becero ed arrapato pubblico maschile di uno squallido night e deve sopportare i lazzi e gli sberleffi dei clienti che non la trovano più attraente. Sarà l’incontro di due anime e non di due corpi vittime di una pseudo cultura, che valuta gli individui come merce, ignorandone spudoratamente pensieri e sentimenti.
