Scissor Sisters: Facebook censura la copertina di “Night Work”

Nella giornata di ieri gli Scissors Sisters hanno pubblicato il nuovo album “Night Work”, e la Universal Music ha deciso di promuoverlo attraverso delle campagne pubblicitarie su Facebook. Tuttavia i banner non sono andati online, in quanto l’immagine utilizzata è stata censurata dagli amministratori del social network, che l’hanno ritenuta “inappropriata, eccessivamente esplicita”.

La copertina è uno scatto di Robert Mappelthorpe, autore delle più belle fotografie di star internazionali come Susan Sarandon, Blondie, Andy Warhol, Patti Smith, Arnold Schwarzenegger, William Burroughs, Susan Sontag, Carolina Herrera, Louise Bourgeois e Cindy Sherman. In particolar modo, la fotografia scelta da Scissor Sisters ritrae il fondoschiena del celebre ballerino classico Peter Reed, morto nel 1986.

In una delle più recenti interviste, gli Scissor Sisters avevano dichiarato di aver scelto quella foto perchè illustrava perfettamente lo spirito del disco: la fatica e il sudore, la sensualità e la fisicità, il lavoro e la danza, ringraziando pubblicamente la Fondazione Mapplethorpe che in via eccezionale ha autorizzato lo sfruttamento dell’immagine in questione.

Dopo la censura subita sul social network Facebook, la Universal Music ha diffuso una nota nella quale si domanda “che fine abbia fatto l’ironia, oltre che il rispetto per la libertà artistica” e lancia un concorso tramite il sito della band invitando il pubblico a creare una loro versione della copertina del disco. Le quattro fotografie più creative saranno premiate con un incontro con la band e un cd autografato.
